Having grown up in one of the UK’s most beautiful south westerly counties Devon, quitting school at 16, exploring the coastal lines with his dog and lying about his age to play in local pubs it could be said Chaz Thorogood has always had a nomadic tear away spirit.
Now living on a 45 years old cabin cruiser on London’s historic canals, with no washing machine, instant hot water, TV or WIFI it seems he has not lost that wayward spirit. Hence the meaning behind his soon to be released EP, Limbo.
Despite Chaz’ indifference to conventional city living and somewhat the basic bohemian manner to which he approaches life, his music in contrast is full of unexpected width and emotion holding a surprising tenderness. ‘Four Walls’, the EP’s arresting first single, is the perfect introduction to this beautiful new project. A voice of somewhat ghostly gentility that reminds us of Ryan Adam’s Oasis cover ‘Wonderwall’ or Ben Howard’s ‘Only Love’.
